Under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Public Health and Population: An awareness seminar will be held on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day
Under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Qasim Mohammed Bahibah, an awareness seminar entitled “Linking Knowledge with Preventive Practice: Tobacco, Oral Health and Oral Cancer” was held at the University of Science and Technology – Main Center, Aden, on Monday, May 26, 2025. The seminar was organized by the National Program for Smoking Control and Treatment of its Harms, in cooperation with the University of Science and Technology, as part of the World No Tobacco Day campaign, May 31.
The seminar was attended by the Assistant President of the University for Student Affairs, Dr. Muammar Al-Qutaibi, several members of the university's administrative and academic staff, and a group of university students. Representatives from the National Program for Combating Smoking and Addressing its Harms were also present.
The seminar aimed to raise community awareness of the dangers of smoking and its negative effects, especially on oral health, and to encourage the adoption of a healthy, tobacco-free lifestyle.
The seminar addressed the definition of types of smoking, presented global statistics related to the number of deaths due to smoking, and also touched on the health risks of smoking on the body’s systems, with a focus on the close relationship between tobacco use and the deterioration of oral health.
The seminar provided a set of preventive guidelines to avoid oral diseases, especially oral cancer, and concluded with practical advice to help quit this bad habit.
This seminar was held as part of the partnership between the University of Science and Technology - Aden and relevant authorities to organize seminars that promote health awareness among members of society, reflecting the university’s interest in embodying social responsibility.
