Cancer awareness campaign at the University of Science and Technology, Hadramout

On Sunday, May 4, 2025, the Department of Medical Sciences, in coordination with the Student Affairs Unit at the University of Science and Technology, organized an awareness event entitled “Cancer Awareness and Prevention” in the university square, implemented by third-level Bachelor of Pharmacy students of the “Pharmaceutical Vision” batch. The event aimed to raise awareness among university students and staff about cancer, emphasizing the importance of early detection and prevention, as well as highlighting the latest medical advancements in diagnosis and treatment. The event included several awareness sessions covering cancer and its types, risk factors, methods of spread within the body, and prevention through adopting a healthy and balanced lifestyle. A simplified explanation of the latest early detection methods and the most prominent treatments used in combating the disease was also provided. The event included informative video presentations, educational models, and the distribution of informational brochures containing important health information and guidelines. The event was met with positive interaction from attendees who participated in discussions and asked questions of the student presenters. The event targeted university students, faculty, and university staff in general, and it was well attended and received remarkable interaction, through which the attendees expressed their interest in the content presented and the importance of repeating such awareness initiatives. The event organizers stressed the importance of continuing to organize similar health activities in the future, recommending expanding their scope to include wider segments of society, and including preliminary medical check-ups in upcoming events. This event comes within the framework of the University of Science and Technology's commitment to its role in serving the community and promoting health awareness as an essential part of its academic and humanitarian mission.
